Thailand Honeymoon From India: Routes, Islands and Pace
- Thailand honeymoon
- Honeymoon from India
- Krabi
- Koh Samui
A Thailand honeymoon works best with one city night, one or two island bases and a lot of unhurried time. Here is how to choose the coast, the stay and the pace from India.
The best Thailand honeymoon from India is seven to nine nights, with at most one city stop and one or two island bases matched to the season. Krabi and Phuket suit roughly November to April; Koh Samui is often the better bet from January to August. Spend on the stay and a couple of private experiences, not on squeezing in more islands.
Thailand is popular with Indian honeymooners because it is close, varied and easy to make romantic without trying too hard. It also produces a lot of disappointing honeymoons: four hotels in seven nights, shared speedboats packed with forty people and dinners spent searching for something vegetarian. This guide helps you avoid that version.
The short answer: fewer bases, more time
A honeymoon is the one trip where moving less is almost always better. Every hotel change costs half a day of packing, transfers and check-in. Pick a route that lets you wake up without an alarm at least half the mornings.
- 6 nights: one island base, or Bangkok plus one beach.
- 7–9 nights: Bangkok (1–2 nights) plus one or two beach bases.
- 10+ nights: add Chiang Mai for a cool, cultural contrast before the beach.
Which coast suits your wedding month?
Indian weddings cluster in winter and spring, which is a happy coincidence: that is when the Andaman coast is at its best. Thailand's two coasts have different rainy seasons, so the right island depends on when you travel.
| Travel window | Usually better choice | Why |
|---|---|---|
| November–April | Krabi, Phuket, Phi Phi (Andaman coast) | Calmer seas, clearer water and the classic limestone scenery. |
| January–August | Koh Samui (Gulf coast) | Often drier when the Andaman side turns wet from around May. |
| October–December | Andaman coast, from late November | Samui's wettest months tend to fall in October–December. |
Weather is a pattern, not a promise. For a full comparison of the three islands, read Phuket vs Krabi vs Koh Samui.
Three Thailand honeymoon routes that work
1. Bangkok and Krabi (7 nights)
Two nights in a riverside hotel in Bangkok, then five in Krabi. Stay in Railay or a quieter stretch near Ao Nang, take one private long-tail boat day to the Hong Islands or the four-island route, and keep the rest of the time for the pool, the beach and sunsets. Railay is reached only by boat, which is exactly what makes it feel removed from the world.
2. Phuket and Phi Phi (8 nights)
Skip busy Patong and base yourself in Kata, Kamala or the quieter north-west coast for four or five nights, then move to Phi Phi for two nights once the day-trippers have gone. Finish with a final night back near Phuket airport if your flight is early. Explore options on our things to do in Phuket page.
3. Chiang Mai and Koh Samui (9 nights)
Three nights in Chiang Mai for temples, a cooking class and the hills, then five or six nights in a Samui pool villa. This route is particularly good from January to April, when the north is pleasant and Samui is in its drier stretch, though northern air quality can dip from February during the burning season.
Villa, resort or boutique hotel?
For a honeymoon, the room matters more than on any other trip, because you will spend real time in it.
- Pool villas give you privacy and space, and are excellent value on Samui and Phuket compared with similar stays elsewhere. Check whether breakfast can be served in the villa.
- Full-service resorts are easier for couples who want spas, several restaurants and organised activities on site.
- Boutique hotels suit Bangkok and Chiang Mai, where you will be out exploring most of the day.
Ask about honeymoon touches when you book — many properties offer a decorated room, a cake or a sunset drink — but do not choose a hotel for the extras. Choose it for location, the view and how quiet it is at night.
Moments worth planning in advance
The memories that last are rarely the busiest days. A few experiences genuinely benefit from being arranged before you fly:
- A private long-tail or speedboat day, leaving early to reach the famous bays before the crowds.
- A beach or clifftop dinner, with the menu agreed ahead if you are vegetarian or Jain.
- A couples' spa ritual at a reputable spa, booked for the afternoon after a boat day.
- A sunset cruise in Phang Nga Bay or around Samui's Ang Thong Marine Park.
- A cooking class in Chiang Mai, which is a surprisingly good way to spend a day together.
Where the honeymoon budget actually goes
Flights from India, the hotels and private transfers are the three largest costs. Peak season — Christmas, New Year and Indian wedding-season dates — moves all three upwards. The most effective ways to control cost without spoiling the trip are to travel in the shoulder months, take one base instead of two, and choose a villa in a quieter area rather than a resort on the busiest beach.

Honeymoon mistakes to avoid
- Too many islands. Bangkok, Phuket, Phi Phi, Krabi and Samui in eight nights is a transport schedule, not a honeymoon.
- Late arrivals with an early tour the next morning. Give the first day nothing to do.
- Shared group tours for every activity. One private day changes the whole trip.
- Ignoring the season. A rough-sea month can cancel the boat days your route depends on.
- Forgetting the paperwork. Check entry rules for Indian passport holders on the Royal Thai Embassy in New Delhi page, and if the bride's passport name is changing after the wedding, make sure tickets match the passport you will actually travel on.
The paperwork couples forget
Keep digital and paper copies of both passports, your hotel confirmations and your insurance policy. If you are using a newly issued passport after the wedding, make sure every booking — flights, hotels, the Thailand Digital Arrival Card — uses exactly the name on the passport you will carry.
Thailand honeymoon questions
How many days are ideal for a Thailand honeymoon?
Seven to nine nights suits most couples: one or two nights in Bangkok, then one or two beach bases. Six nights works well with a single island and no city stop.
Which is the best place in Thailand for a honeymoon?
Krabi and Phuket from November to April; Koh Samui is often better from January to August. Chiang Mai adds culture and cooler air if you want more than beaches.
Is Thailand good for a vegetarian honeymoon couple?
Yes, with planning. Resorts prepare vegetarian and Jain meals when told in advance, Indian restaurants are easy to find in the main areas, and a few Thai phrases keep fish sauce off your plate. Our first-timer's guide to Thailand covers the rest of the basics.
